SYNOPSIS
An ageing recluse rock star gives a rare interview with an inexperienced, anxious young journalist. But what is it that connects them?
A 2016 short film from writer/director/editor and producer Josh Merritt. Based loosely on and inspired by Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd's "missing years", as well as Ginger Baker from Cream, Echoes attempts to broach and question subjects like crises of identity, dementia, celebrity, the nature of guilt, and the hallucinogenic powers of repression through the visage of psychedelic rock mythology and intrigue, spinning on the age-old question of: Where are they now?
As well as being accepted internationally to film festivals and receiving its own psychological conference hosted by Drs. Linda/Rod Marshall at Salford University, Echoes has been covered in print and by BBC Radio!

My directorial debut, which I also co-wrote & produced as part of the Barbican Young Filmmakers back in 2014.
This won me "Best Short Film Noir" in Shooting People's official Sin City 2 competition.

A film I wrote for the British Film Institute back in 2011. We debuted to a crowd of 450 (industry and general public alike) at Southbank, alongside three other shorts, all from concept to screen in 11 days. The Guardian named me one of their '5 to look out for', describing my work as a "clever comedy short that drew on Larry David's influence in its cavalier attitude to polite society's norms".
